I'm so very surprised by this.

According to this story....

It seems like all of those people who voted for Bush because of his support traditional values even though they thought he wasnt doing a great job might be a tad bit disappointed. Next thing you know, the Republicans won't outlaw abortion.

I mean, how stupid can these people be to be led on by the moral hypocrits of the Republican party year after year. These people will not give the people who voted for them what they want; either because they can't, or won't because they know it would be political suicide.

It is a lot safer politically to be a pro-life Republican than someone who helped outlaw abortion. Pro choice people are a lot less motvated to vote against someone when they don't think they need to. A lot of Republicans are making a careers out of talking about outlawing choice, rather than doing it. Nice to see they have a second empty issue to start working up for the morons that cant see through them.

Amazing, two enormous intellects rising to prominence at this historic time

This is astonishing. At one point in human history, two incredible intellects coming to maturity in the public forum. I hope people appreciate how fortunate we are to witness and benefit from it. Maybe after they solve the Iraq "troubles" they should move to solving the unified field theory. The future is as promising as it ever has been.

The bombers in Iraq are:

Having an effect

Trying to start a civil war

Oh, and then there is the fact that The Supreme Donald is:

"A Caring Fellow"

In fact the unified field theory should be just the beginning for Bush and Allawi. Maybe they should work on a warp drive (oil powered, of course) or at least an infinate improbability drive.

Currently in Japan

I have been trying to post on a regular basis but I have been in Japan since Wednesday night. Been tough to log on regularly here. Back to the States Monday evening.

I hate when this happens

You make a display pointing out someones human right's abuses and they put up a display showing yours. Unfortunately, in the display your abuses look worse.

Cuba in this case...

Wow! Something else to make me optimistic...

Jerry Springer to begin radio talk show. This is potentially interesting. Springer could really mix up state politics in Ohio. Before becoming a TV shock-clown he was VERY formidable in local politics in Cincinnati, the Republican base in Ohio. Note that as a Democrat, in a heavily Republican area, he was elected mayor with the biggest plurality in history.

But the real interesting and exciting thing is that there is going to be a liberal talk radio station in Cincinnati other than Air America. Nothing against, Air America, I love them. But another one. This means it is catching on. In Ohio. This is just outstanding news.

Some interesting and frightening comments on civilian casualties in Iraq

This is an interesting read. On the one hand it actually discusses the civilian casualties in Iraq and their impact on recruiting insurgents. It is good that he raises the issue. On the other hand, I found this statement disturbing:

"Massing suggests that part of the reason much of the media has avoided some of the more uncomfortable stories out of Iraq is that during the U.S. presidential election season, the Bush and Kerry campaigns presented opposite views over whether Iraq was going well or badly, and that quickly meant that any news reporting focused on negative aspects of the U.S. presence in Iraq were quickly framed as partisan in intent, and therefore requiring "balance" as a domestic political story might."

Does this mean that if the media thinks reporting facts might cause one to vote differently they should make up things out of "fairness"? Or just ignore the facts and not talk about them. That is neither necessary nor sufficient for fairness. Should't the media be concerned with "truth"? It does exist, really it does.

This makes me a little more optimistic.

I like some of the things these guys are saying. I especially like Blanchard's suggestion of going after Republicans using DeLay as a issue. That is exactly how the Republicans got control of the House to begin with. Except it was Jim Wright not Tom DeLay. Dean and Ickes also strike me as real strong possible leaders.

Hmm, are we bugging the pope's phone as well?

Do we really have to behave like international criminals?Shouldn't someone get fired or put in jail or something for this? If anyone, as an American, doesn't find this embarrassing I think they must have real issues. We are behaving like out of control thugs.

This is really pathetic

I had a little more respect for the AP before this. I would expect something like this from the NY Times but not the AP. They actually have a headline that says air quality is a top priority for Bush. As opposed to a more accurate one saying something like "Bush tries to confuse people by saying he is for clean air while he actually weakens air qualty standards".

It would be funny if it weren't so evil

I'm going to defend this guy

This is an all around sad story.

BBC NEWS | Americas | US soldier jailed for Iraq murder

But I can't look at all of the facts and be critical of this soldier. They tried to rescue the victim, presumably at some risk to themselves before they decided he was too injured to save. Several of the other charges of "murder" are for similar instances. Not all of what has happened over there but most of the specific incidents I have seen fall into that category. The prisoner abuse being a specific exception to this. This kind of stuff happens in war. That's why we should not have them except when absolutely needed for our safety. And the Iraq war was was not such a case. No one with any brains at all ever could have believed it was or believed that the government really believed it was. So now we have this vague sense of guilt over what we are doing over there so we are selecting some soldiers to punish so we feel we are carrying out a moral war. We aren't. Most of these soldiers are scapegoats to protect the criminals and fools that sent them over there. They are victims themselves.

I'm glad someone in the press is doing their job...

Most of the press have their heads in the sand, if not in other, more disturbing places. Imagine my surprise when I see this on the front page of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch yesterday. Someone is doing their work as a reporter thank god. Now if the NY Times would pick up the pace a bit. It is a good story and an interesting read.

Job well done

Now this is special

There seems to be some doubt about this story being true, as expressed within. However, if it is, who the hell did this?

I'm sure glad we aren't giving in to all of those people.

All of those foreigners that is. This is really beautiful. It sort of typifies the entire administration. They come up with a completely inadequate plan and then criticize the others, in this case the entire world, for not taking action.

All your science belongs to Bush!

"Stop Making Sense"

Apologies to David Bryne

Who is this Vlad guy, he seems to know what is going on

Nothing to say about this.

Just profound sadness at the waste

Who knew Rumsfeld was Dutch?

Oh wait, nevermind, this was the previous genocide.

Bad luck for you. They are going to make an example out of you!

Maybe it had something to do with the guns and grenades....

But hey. I'm only guessing. But when I read something like this:

"We have to find out exactly what gave them the ability to get inside and get through the gate," Interior Ministry security spokesman Brigadier-General Mansour Turki told Reuters.

It's the first thing that comes to my mind. But I'm sure they will get to the bottom of it. They are after all strong supporters of the war on terror.

WE ARE SAVED!!

I have to admit that I was becoming despondent. The dollar isn't worth the paper it's written on, the economy is draining away to China, everyone in the world hates us and we have created the worlds largest terrorist recruitment campaign in Iraq. All told I was beginning to think we had really done it this time. This was one we would never recover from. But then I discover that all is well. John McCain has teamed up with Jorge and some other goofy guy to come up with a plan to save us. That's why these guys are so successful at being our leaders. They can focus like a god damn laser on what is important.

Activate the laser!

I am going to sleep soundly tonight. Yes sir!

Who would win a fight between Frankenstein and Dracula

Looks like the army can beat up the FBI. Now I just have to figure out if the Army is Frankenstein or Dracula

This is getting ridiculous

I'm gone for a few months and look what a mess you have made out of the world!

Well, for better or worse, I'm back to blogging. Probably for worse, at least for me. I've been meaning to do it for a while but it was a link to this that I saw on Atrios today that really got me to do it. Aren't the other people, you know, the evil ones supposed to be the ones that do stuff like this?
